Starpainter『Someday -JAPAN TOUR in Osaka-』Wed,10/Jul/2024 @SOCORE FACTORY

I wrote about Starpainter's first tour of Japan, Osaka leg.
I had Google translate what I wrote in Japanese and am republishing it here.

Star Painter.
He came to Japan from Canada. Welcome to Osaka.
This is his first time performing outside of Canada.
I'm really happy that he chose Japan as his venue.

The band consists of six members.
Since many of the members are physically strong, the stage looks small.

To introduce the members,
Guitarist/Vocals: Joel Stretch
Drummer: Mickey Hayward
Guitarist: Joel Gray
Bassist: Dylan Wagner
Vocals/Percussion/Guitarist: Bailey Kate
Keyboardist: Tyler Stewart

The guitarist/vocals Joel is in the center at the front. Bailey is on the far left, and Dylan on bass is behind them. Tyler on keyboards is at the far right,

Joel the vocalist raises his right hand and greets, "Hello, Osaka." We responded with applause and cheers.

The first song was "Mark of Cain." Since it was their first performance in Japan, they may have decided to play the first song from their first album.
Of course, this is just my imagination. If so, I'm happy.

The melody made me feel glad to have come right from the beginning. I was already satisfied and could go home. I'm not going home.

"Alone on the Road" is not on the recording, so I wonder if it's a brand new song.
There must have been a mistake before the song started, as they stopped playing after playing the opening part.
Mickey, the drummer, was always smiling while playing, and he was smiling among the other members, and spreading his smile to the audience.

When I talked to him after the show, he said with a playful tone, "That's an easy name to remember, isn't it?" He then said, "I've been playing drums since I was little, and I play in a style that enjoys looking at the faces of the audience and their reactions."

In the first MC, he greeted in English, saying, "This is my first time in Osaka. It's a beautiful city."

In the second MC, he said in English, "Is it okay if I don't sing today? I woke up this morning and I couldn't sing," and "Thank you for listening to classical music."

I think it was "Ladyfingers." Singer Joel went to the back and started tinkering with the amp.
He took out the harmonica that hangs around his neck and smiled. Cheers rose from the audience.
This song was a cover of Herb Alpert's work. I don't know if it's the original.

Ladyfingers is a beautiful word. I can imagine long, thin, white fingers, fingers that seem to reflect the life you've lived. I want to know the lyrics.

"Summer In Your Mouth" is a song that I really wanted to hear live, because I thought it was a great way to describe the summer spreading in your mouth.
What kind of summer?
What makes summer spread in your mouth?
It really gets your imagination flowing.
It's like a car stereo with the volume turned down quietly in a car driving in the middle of a summer night.
The volume is just enough that you can barely hear it. It's not that hot, so the window is open. The woman sitting next to the man driving mutters to him in profile, "Let's go there next time." "Yeah, I'm sure," he says, turning the wheel and smiling back.

After "Summer In Your Mouth," Joel starts talking.
First, he introduces each member, and at the end, he introduces himself, saying, "I'm Joel too," with a smile.

After that, he says, "This is our first tour outside of Canada. We're really lucky to be touring in Japan, and we're really grateful."
"Thank you for inviting us, just a little longer," he says, and plays "Low-Hanging Fruit."

Next, they play "Travelogue," which is up-tempo for them. I wonder if this is a new song. It wasn't on YouTube or anywhere else.

After the last song, "Grocery Store," the calls for an encore continued, but there was no encore because he was not feeling well.
It's a shame, but there are more shows coming up the next day. I'll save the encore for when they come to Japan next time.

I watched the members' eye contact, their guitar playing gestures, their expressions when they hit the tambourine, their voices during the chorus, the way they hit the triangle, the thickness, length, and volume of their beards, and I enjoyed watching them while swaying from side to side so that I wouldn't miss anything.

There was no lyric sheet, so I couldn't understand the lyrics, but I found some on the Internet. They mainly contain lyrics from the first album. Here's the link →Starpainter Lyrics

I'd like to listen to the songs from the second album "Rattlesnake Dream" while looking at the lyrics someday.

※The setlist was presented to us by drummer Mickey right after the show, without any request from us.
Thank you very much.
